For over 14 years, groups of college students have participated in a Special Topics in Theatre Course. These young adults have touched many lives including their own. Many of these very fine, talented, energetic and passionate young adults make up the "SOS" cast. Their love of Educational Theatre has brought them back to continue to be part of this wonderful journey.
| CHRIS earned his masters in Public Policy from Stony Brook University while performing in theatre and independent films. He has been a part of “Stories of Substance” since its inception and continues writing and acting for the award winning performance. Chris is influenced and inspired by the comedy and improvisation of Jim Carrey, Charlie Day, and Larry David. He is working on a production titled “Going Nowhere” where he plays a disillusioned, caffeine addicted workaholic. Hilarity will ensue. Chris currently splits his time between acting and the merchant services industry. |
| DAN is entering his 3rd year working under Kathleen's program of peer education through the arts. Beginning with the 07-08 ensemble of Swallow This! to the Traveling Troupe. Dan is honored to be working with Kathleen and her amazing ensemble once again on SOS. Dan continues to pursue the arts in both film and theatre in NYC where he resides. Currently, Dan can also be seen as Mercutio/Paris in the PA Shakespeare Festival production of Romeo and Juliet. |
| DANIELLE is a graduate of Stony Brook University majoring in theatre arts. In her college career she has been in multiple productions including being a part of the 2008-2009 cast of "Swallow This!" as well as writing and directing her own play. She thoroughly believes in the power of education through the arts, especially theatre. Danielle feels unbelievably blessed to be part of such an amazing group and is looking forward to the start of season 3 of "Stories of Substance" |
| DARRYL is a graduate of Stony Brook University majoring in Cinema & Cultural Studies with a minor in theatre & has aspirations of becoming a professional film actor. He’s also been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Darryl was also a member of the 2008-2009 cast of “Swallow This!” He is very active in his church & community as well. He's a leader in the drama ministry & audio/visual personnel at The House of Judah in West Sayville. As a peer leader & educator he enjoys helping others in any way he can & is honored to be a part of “Stories of Substance” to help educate & encourage others to make healthy choices. |
| Outreach Coordinator DEDUNU graduated in Psychology and minored in Theatre Arts at Stony Brook University. She has been a part of the cast for about 5 years and growing, and is continually grateful to be part of such an enlightening experience! Her love for "SOS" has fostered her interests in working with young adults and creating social change on many different levels. She is currently pursuing an M.S. in Social Work with concentrations in programming, policy, and clinical practice at Columbia University. |

| JELANI is a third year college student at SUNY College at Old Westbury. She is a media communications major and a proud sister of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated. Jelani was a part of the college prep theatre ensemble at Harlem School of the Arts from 2001-2007. She has been involved in peer education groups since her freshman year of high school. Working with and reaching out to the community is extremely important to her and she hopes she can continue doing so by being a part of the "Stories Of Substance" cast. |

| Lisa grew up in Long Island, New York. She first fell in love with acting when she was 15 when her parents signed her up for an acting class at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, NY. Chasing her newfound dream, she decided to study Theatre at Suffolk County Community College. She performed in almost a dozen productions, including "Women on Fire" and "Arabian Nights". Lisa also gained experience in stage production during her time at SCCC. After she finished her studies, Lisa took her talents to New York City and performed in the Off-Broadway show "XYZ Files". Most recently, Lisa has been working on film sets doing extra work and is excited to be a part of the 2011-2012 "Stories of Substance" cast. |
| Special Projects Coordinator MEGAN is a senior majoring in sociology at Stony Brook University. "Stories of Substance" is an integral part of her life as it combines her love of helping others with being on stage. The experience has opened her up to the possibility of a career in substance abuse counseling. She feels so blessed to be part of this outstanding cast and hopes to keep her streak of never missing a performance going for as long as humanly possible. |
| Nyila graduated from Central Islip High School, Attended Nassau Community college in 2009-2010 studying liberal arts and a minor in Multi-disciplinary behavior. Desiring to see what new things she can learn from instructors and other actors she encountered in her short time there. She Learned the best place for her to learn more about the craft, she'd have to open herself up to the world around her. Taking smalls steps to fulfill her dreams and desires as well as helping others achieve theirs. She had small roles in local theater such as Narrows community theater, and performed in the 2008 U.S.A world showase in Las Vegas , Nevada. She auditioned for "S.O.S" in early april of 2011 and is excited to be one of the casts newest members. She is looking forward to learning more about acting and also helping others. With her own story of substance she hopes to touch others with all "S.O.S" performances and to remain as open to the world as possible. Lets go "S.O.S." |

| Production Manager TIFFANY attended SUNY College at Old Westbury where she studied sociology. She is currently the Office Manager for the Center of Student Leadership and Involvement and a cafeteria manager of the college. In addition, she is a child care worker at a group home and an avid member of her community. She was a part of the 2006-2007 cast of “Swallow This”. The experience has deeply impacted her life because she has continued educating her peers and youth within her community. Being a part of the “Stories of Substance” cast is one in a million experience and she is more than thankful to be a part of it. |
Webmaster and New-Media Coordinator XAVIER - Born and raised in Brooklyn, Xavier always stays 'true to the game'. Xavier recently finished filming the pilot, City Lights and performed in the Off Broadway production of Hope Strret at the Bridge Theatre in Manhattan. He also starred in a movie, Surviving the Streets; it recently premiered at the New York International/ Independent Film and Video Festival. Xavier received a BFA from SUNY Stony Brook University where he minored in Theatre and Digital Arts. Mr. Rodney currently produces his web series, “Going Nowhere”, which he writes, and directs. He enjoys film-making, comedy and awesome. |
